TFGL Episode 9: ANAIA FROM IS GOD IS
Is God Is follows the story of twin sisters Anaia and Racine, who share a city apartment, work as cleaners, and generally seem to be getting along OK in life despite it being immediately visible that things haven't always been great. Both of them have scars, Racine on her arm and Anaia across one side of her face. The scars are tangly and complex, signs of a fire in which their mother burned to death and the two girls barely escaped with their lives.
...at least, they thought their mother burned to death. Until they receive a letter from her asking them to come and see her one last time. Because now she really is dying.
Off they go across the United States, down into the deep South. They're Black, as are both of their parents, and therefore the trip already invokes some complicated feelings as they leave the relative diversity of the city and head into states where some people still believe the other side should have won the civil war.
They reach their mother without incident, though, and she asks them to do one last thing for her before she dies: kill their father.
