Whoops, I started a podcast

It’s the longest day of the year, aka the summer solstice, and I have just hit ‘Post’ on the podcast I’ve been planning for over two years. The inaugural episode discusses Ari Aster’s visual masterpiece Midsommar (2019), and you can listen to it here (don’t worry, it’s free).

That Final Girl Life came about for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I love horror films, obviously. Secondly, I identify as a final girl, since I’ve survived a lot of the things horror films show. And thirdly, I really want to help people understand what it’s like to be someone who has survived The Horrors but is living a relatively normal life. By “relatively normal” I mean “basically capable of functioning in society.”

It’s true that a lot of people who go through terrible things end up dying by suicide, or spend their lives on psych wards or prisons. But (a) not all of us; and (b) those states aren’t always permanent. Well, apart from the first one, obviously.
